Sugar waxing is a great alternative to traditional waxing methods.
It can be applied at home with a few simple steps, and it leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.
So how do you apply sugar wax?
Well DONT PANIC, we are going to talk you through our instructions guide for applying sugar wax.
It’s simple really, first make sure the skin is clean and dry before beginning, and heat the wax until it is in liquid form. Apply the wax in the direction of hair growth, and use a cloth or paper strip to remove it quickly and smoothly.
It’s as easy as that (you really can’t get it wrong) you can follow our easy in-depth step by step guide below to make sure you’re using sugar wax correctly on your skin.
Benefits of Sugar Waxing
Sugar wax is also known as “cire perdue”, which translates to lost-wax; this is because you only need a little bit of wax to make a large area smooth and hairless.
Sugar waxing is a great alternative to traditional waxing methods because it is:
-Eco-friendly: There are no extra chemicals or materials involved; all you really need is sugar and water!
-Economical: You only need a little bit of wax to make a large area smooth and hairless. With traditional waxing, you would need more strips for each application, which means more work and extra costs down the line.
-Easy to Apply: Sugar wax can be applied at home with a few simple steps.
What You Will Need to Make Sugar Wax
Making your own sugar wax solution really is as easy as it sounds, sugar and water –
-About 1/2 cup of sugar (white or brown)
-1/4 cup of water
If you would prefer not to use your wax boiling pot for food at a later time, you can buy an inexpensive saucepan just for waxing projects.
-Waxing strips or cloths (optional)
Towels and old clothes are the best things to wear during a waxing project since it isn’t always easy to get wax out of fabric. Tie your hair up if it is long, in order to prevent getting wax in it.
How to Make Sugar Wax at Home?
Although sugar is harmful to one’s health, it isn’t good for one’s skin! Sugar wax is the beverage of your choice if you had a negative salon wax experience.
Sugar wax is a paste made from four ingredients: sugar, honey, lemon, and water. It’s simple to make and only has four components.
You may find all of these ingredients in your kitchen. People like me who desire to know what’s in personal care products because it’s harmful to their health will appreciate this concept since it is natural and free of pollutants.
Wax is melted and then poured over your skin while it’s still hot. You must first make sugar wax paste and then warm it up a little bit before applying it to your skin in the case of sugar wax. As a result, you have a reduced risk of burns.
According to Medical News Today, Sugar wax is also mild and rich in alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). It removes your hair more gently than ordinary wax. And if you were worried about stickiness, don’t be concerned; it won’t leave any sticking on your skin.
Now, I want to be completely honest: producing Sugar wax is more like making caramel sauce at home. It will be incorrect a few times before you get the hang of it, but after that, you’ll enjoy creating it.
The excellent news is that because of the honey in this recipe, it is self-preserving wax. That’s why you might need to make it once or twice a year.

Step By Step Instructions on How to Apply Sugar Wax
1. Bring the sugar and water to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. It will take about five minutes for the mixture to become syrupy and clear – then it’s done!
2. Test the temperature of your wax by dropping a bit into cold water – it should be about body temperature (100-110 degrees Fahrenheit)
3. Once the wax is ready, remove it from heat and set it somewhere safe to cool for a few minutes.
4. Test the temperature on your wrist before applying to more sensitive areas of skin – if it’s too hot, wait until it cools down (~2 minutes).
5. When the wax is at a manageable temperature, pour it into your pot or saucepan and place it back on the burner. Bring the wax to a good simmer – you should see wisps of smoke coming from the surface of the wax.
6. While the wax is simmering, test it again on your wrist – if you can comfortably leave your finger in the wax for 10 seconds, it’s ready.
7. Apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. Start by spreading a thin layer on one small area such as your leg or underarm.
8. Cover the same area with strips/cloths and rub them briskly in the direction of hair growth to remove the wax quickly and smoothly (against the direction of hair growth).
9. After waxing, smooth any remaining wax off with a warm washcloth.
10. Clean up the area by soaking it in soapy water and scrubbing it gently with a soft cloth or sponge to get rid of any wax residue.
Tips & Warnings:
-Don’t wait for your wax to cool completely before applying, as it will cool too quickly and become difficult to handle. Make sure the wax is of spreadable consistency so that it can stay on the skin long enough to be effective.
-Waxing takes some elbow grease, so don’t be afraid to rub hard! The more pressure you apply against the direction of hair growth, the more hair you will remove.
-Rinse your waxing cloths/strips between uses – these things can get pretty sticky!
-If your wax isn’t sticking to your skin properly, it may be too cold or not hot enough. Warm it up some more and test again.
-Don’t use it on broken skin, rashes/other skin irritations or moles.
-Avoid applying wax to large areas of the body – it is a more effective and efficient way to remove hair from small areas such as the underarms, eyebrows and lip area.
